Marika Järv is an Australian designer, based in the coastal village of Avalon Beach, on the Northern Beaches of Sydney.
Graduating from UNSW with a Bachelor of Architecture (Honours), MJ was fortunate to then spend the next seven years refining her meticulous attention to detail at one of Australia’s most innovative, respected and highly awarded architectural firms, Peter Stutchbury Architecture.
After branching out on her own, MJ founded her independent, solo design practice Marika Järv Creative; where she primarily works on designing considered, elegant, understated and stylish homes, with a focus on pared back simplicity and natural materials.
Whilst dabbling in graphic design years ago, MJ recreated a vintage destination scroll in homage to her beloved locale of Pittwater. The scroll was personalised with places that were near-and-dear to her heart, and was the spark for her nostalgic, wildly successful and endlessly copied series of screen prints ‘ALL STOPS TO’ (via former side-project PrintDolls). These artworks kick-started a global trend, which saw the now ubiquitous destination/bus scroll become a worldwide homewares phenomenon.
In 2016 MJ established the fundraising initiative An Adventure of the Heart; co-founded with friend Lisa Brown, to raise funds and awareness for the work of the remarkable Australian obstetrician Dr Catherine Hamlin in Ethiopia, and her charity the Catherine Hamlin Fistula Foundation.
