DAILY IMPRINT
"Marika Jarv is someone that I've been admiring for some time now. She first came to my attention when real living featured her gorgeous home in the July 06 issue and ever since she's worked on a steady stream of projects that have impressed me. I love her relaxed style with its hits of fashion and retro-cool."

HOME FEATURE
"Come sunny Saturday mornings, designer and architect Marika Jarv walks with her young daughters, three-year-old Avie and 4-month-old Jaia, down to Sydney's North Avalon beach. Here the trio meet up with Marika's partner and the girls' dad, Matt, who has been out carving up the surf since daybreak...
Marika spent seven years working with renowned Sydney architectural and landscape firm Peter Stutchbury Architects before launching her own design practice and former side project PrintDolls—for which she created the phenomenally successful 'All Stops To' bus and tram scroll banners."

"Marika Jarv: Hot because... she, too worked for top architectural firm Stutchbury and Pape, and, now in her own practice, designs decidedly Australian and perfectly contemporary houses."

GEORGE GORROW HOUSE
"Built in a decade of questionable aesthetic sensibility, the original structure architect Marika Järv was faced with sported many hallmarks of its era – blond brick walls, vermiculite ceilings and dark, compartmentalized layout. Thankfully her client had seen beyond these attributes when purchasing the property, and was keen to radically change the structure.
“The brief was to create a large open plan living/entertaining area, and to provide the most seamless connection to the outside rear pool area” explains Järv, “In terms of aesthetics, the client was well travelled and an avid surfer, so it was essential the house conveyed a relaxed beach-side quality, yet had international appeal, specifically reflecting time spent in New York.”
Thus began a collaborative, experimental and occasionally spontaneous design process. The client’s open-mindedness allowed Järv to push her creative limits and incorporate materials and details that more conventional residents would shy away from. This included exposed brass taps and plumbing in the bathrooms, black ceramic basins and cement rendering on all the walls (including the shower spaces) instead of the more traditional finish of tiles. “At one stage we were considering using copper sheet for the kitchen benchtops (which would have been amazing!), but unfortunately budget constraints wouldn’t permit”, she adds."

A WEEKEND WITH.... MARIKA JARV
"Architecture is one of those professions that you can apply to anything; it's creative, you're building things and constantly problem-solving".

GEORGE GORROW HOUSE
"The serenity of this bathroom can be attributed to it's simplicity: rendered walls and floors of polished concrete with exposed aggregate and benches made from recycled timber planks. Taps and shower heads, in their raw brass form, from the Roulette range by CB Ideal Tapware and a pre-owned vintage soap/ toothbrush holder add to the muted tones. Externally mounted timber stacking/sliding doors provide large openings for an abundance of natural light and ventilation."

WALL OF SOUND
We're loving these limited-edition prints by Marika Jarv. Entitled Wall of Sound and named after the production technique pioneered by legendary music producer Phil Spector (crazy hair, murder conviction), they feature the names of over 500 musicians arranged in a spiral like the grooves of a record. They're a subtle way to add an arty touch to your walls, though what we like most is Jarv's attention to detail. In black, gold or clear—only 100 of each are available, so get in quick.

"Also pushing our nostalgia buttons are old bus and tram destination blinds—now popular as wall art. Perhaps you caught the No. 42 tram to Melbourne's Mont Albert as a school kid? Well, now you can celebrate it in your living room. In fact, PrintDolls have adapted the real thing onto smart, screen-printed canvases called All Stops To..."

"Designer Marika Jarv is the brains behind the original "All Stops To" destination scroll, and now she's back with a clever mashup of band names. The "Wall of Sound" print takes band and artist titles and links them to form a long continuous loop."

"Make a bold statement with these screen prints based on vintage posters, says art director Cassidy. "These artworks have such impact using nothing more than type. They're based on the destination signs that were used in trams and buses. I think they're especially meaningful if you've lived in those suburbs or spent a lot of time there, reminding you of where you've been and what you've seen."
